About the radio:
This is a "screen grid" TRF radio. Screen grid tubes, or "Tetrodes", eliminated the feedback problem of triodes. Tubes could be built with higher amplification, which allowed building radios with fewer tubes thus lowering costs.

This set uses only 4 tubes to do the same job as the 6 tube Crosley Gembox. It still has a log number dial (1-100) but has a built in dynamic speaker.
The cabinet, in the popular “cathedral” or gothic style, is very basic and it was obviously built to meet the needs of radio buyers during the depths of the Great Depression.

"Before" Chassis

Note the missing speaker grill, knob and right column top.
The "grill cloth" is window screen.

The chassis restoration required a new antenna coil from Antique Electronic Supply along with the usual re-cap. It could use a speaker re-coning.
