About the radio:
This is a nice, competent, 5 tube superheterodyne in a nice cabinet that tunes both broadcast and police bands. (Table radios in cabinets that are taller than they are wide are referred to as “tombstones”).
Reducing costs by reducing tube count can also be accomplished by using new technology such as the 6B5 dual triode, essentially 2 tubes in 1. Introduced in 1935, the 6B5 is used as an two stage audio amplifier allowing higher gain without an additional tube.
1935 saw the “airplane dials” (circular dials with double pointers) replace the older “window” dials.

   Company History

In 1920, Powel Crosley (1886-1961) set out to produce an affordable radio and went on to build one of the most successful electronics companies of the early 20th century, earning him the reputation "The Henry Ford of Radio". In 1922 Crosley started radio station WLW, which, in 1934, would become the most powerful station in the country (500,000 watts). In 1935 Crosley introduced the "Roamio", the first car radio.
The Crosley corporation is still in business making appliances and reproduction radios, visit them at www.crosley.com.
